Artificial Intelligence (AI): Risks for Human Resources, Recruitment, and More
Have you used Chat GPT this week; how about today? Did you use a competitor such as Bard by Google? AI has slowly been becoming a part of our everyday life, even before COVID. Companies have been using it to create chatbots for customer service, generate SEO, for coding and so much more.
AI is now playing a role in human resources as well.
AI in Human Resources: The Good, the Bad, and the Lawsuit
There are many potential benefits to using AI in HR. For example, AI can help to improve the efficiency of hiring processes, identify top talent, and reduce bias. However, there are also some potential risks associated with using AI in HR. For example, AI could be used to discriminate against certain groups of people, or it could lead to the loss of jobs.
One recent lawsuit highlights the potential risks of using AI in HR. In February 2023, Derek L. Mobley filed a putative class-action lawsuit against Workday Inc., a company that provides HR software. Mobley alleged that Workday’s AI systems and screening tools discriminated against him on the basis of his race, age, and disability.
It is not just being used in recruiting. It is becoming an integral role in many other assets of Human Resource focused digital platforms. For example, 13% of HR teams have already adopted chatbots, virtual assistants, or machine learning apps to deliver employee services, showcasing the early adoption of artificial intelligence tools.
On the other hand, some people see AI as more trustworthy and reliable than people, demonstrating trust issues within companies in this current work cycle.
(64%) of respondents trust robots more than their managers, as revealed by Oracle and Future Workplace’s research.
